2002 2.2 ECOTEC Won't Start
Thursday, May 24, 2007 4:03 AM
Well let's see first my fuel pump went and I got that fixed and I've been driving the car for approximately 3 days now and I went out yesterday and the damn thing won't start. It cranks over fine, I can hear the fuel pump coming on, the plugs were just done in January . I think it my be the ICM but I don't know how to check it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Try to get is started by tapping the bottom of the fuel tank with a rubber mallet. That's what I had to do when my fuel pump was acting up. If it works, than you know something there is still the problem.

Did they make an ecotec in 2002? I thought 2003 was the first?

OK update...I called Crappy Tire to get a price on the Ignition Control Modular and they said the most they carry for an ECOTEC is an oil filter, so I called GM and they want $144CDN for the ICM alone or $467CDN for the whole top piece (with plug boot and all) which I'm assuming with 140, 000km I should probably do it. But I'm still not 100% sure that's it...So it's gonna be sitting a while. Called the wreckers and the guys trying to tell me on the phone that it's called a coil pack and he doesn't have any for an ECOTEC just 2.2 OHV. Stupid idiot parts person, I seen a dozen ECOTEC there...........

^^^^ wreckers call them coil packs, for every car. it makes things easier for the sales guys and dismantlers. but you get the coil and the top piece with the boots.

this might be a stupid question but did you change the fuel filter to because a dirty fuel filter could have made the first pump take a crap and prob. the second one

Have you checked the battery? Samething was happening to my 96 Sunfire, the green light was on the AC Delco battery meaning it was still good, but took it to Canadian Tire, did a free test, battery is bad, replaced the battery...but car still did not start as the engine was flooded from all the times I tried to start it..eventually started at the mechanics after the $60 tow.

OK so it's not the ICM/Coil, the battery's charged, the fuel pump's coming on. I'm going to have to get a fuel pressure tester and go from there....unless anyone else has any suggestions
