So last week my motor developed a very loud knock. So I parked the car and started tearing the motor apart hunting for the problem. Everything in the top end checked out so I pulled the pan. When I drained the oil it had a golden shimmer to it, but it didnt concern me at the time. Aways found these in the oil pimp screen, by the way they're non-magnetic
And more of the shimmery oil in the pan which is also full of shavings...
Where the 24 has sat for more than a week
And finally the pile of parts I hope will find there way back on the car...
So, I suspect a bearing, but I wont know for sure till I tear the bottom end apart. Any input would be most excellent..
#3 Rod Bearing probably.
Were you revving past 5500RPM when the noise started? The oil pump on the 2.4 cavitates at high rpm causing the rod bearings to go. This is probably what happend to you.
oh yeah, im def gonna have to call spun/destroyed bearing on this one. between the bronze color in the oil, the metal piece that looks like backing material for a bearing, and the fact its a 2.4TC..its gotta be a bearing.

At the time the noise started I was babying the poor thing cause the night before I ran I fairly hard, not extremely, just some fast starts, and alittle 2nd gear spinach

So I ovisally have to pull the motor but what im wondering is do I have to pull the transmission or can I squeeze the block out by itself. Keep in mind all thats left is the block and internals everything else has been taken off.
Well my friends I finally got my motor out and started pulling rods. I took the #3 cap off first and was extremely surprised to find a perfectly healthy bearing. Ok..? #4 was next and this is what I found...
At first I was like ... WTF wheres the rest of it ...
Then I starting picking at it and made a remarkable discovery
Needless to say I need a new bearing

motors on the way to the machine shop hopefully this week
