Overheating!!!!

I have the 2200 5 spd 2001 motor and it occasionally overheats I have replaced the cap and flushed the system to no avail. it overheats while idling and it will over heat sometimes while driving and the fluid boils over and out of the cap while the cap is still on.. please help!!

Change the thermostat, not expensive and is quite possibly the problem.



I had one misbehave just recently in a '93 2.2, temp increased to a point where "Check Gauges" light came on then temp dropped and all was fine for the rest of the day.

Changed the thermostat, problem solved.

If the thermostat was changed as well, there is air in the system. I had the same problem after a water pump change.

For the record, your car is the 2.2l, not the 2200 (yes, there's a difference).

Step 1) Let the car cool off overnight.
Step 2) Start car, let idle for 3 minutes. Turn off car.
Step 3) Undo this bolt on the black pipe that runs across the front of the engine. Don't undo it fully, just enough until a little fluid dribbles out, then tighten.



Step 4) Start car, let idle 60 seconds, rev up slightly (about 1500rpm) for 30 seconds, turn off car.
Step 5) Repeat steps 3 and 4 approximately 5-7 times.

that should solve it.

thanks for the help!! not sure if it will help but I will try it out!!

kardain- yes I know there is a difference and I have the 2200 out of a 2001 cavy in my car been around the boards and jbodys for 13 years I know just a little bit ..

anyways thanks for the advice!!!

so what happens if you do all that and that little bolt you turn breaks off ? oops..
