Car seems to ignore me at times when I hit the gas
Thursday, May 10, 2007 11:54 AM
Every once in a great while, my car seems to not want to obey.

I'll be at a stop or slowing coasting (foot off the gas), and then I hit the gas and it doesn't respond. Like I never hit the gas.... but then SURGE! She accelerates!

This isn't a big deal since it's like once every 2 to 3 months, but now my sister-in-law's Z24 is also doing it, but doing it daily. Her car also idles rough when it's cold, but this ignore/surge problem is new for her.

Anyone have any ideas?

For the record, when we tried to clear up her rough idling, we replaced... EGR, Filter, Fuel Filter, Oil Pump, Spark Plugs, Coolant Temp Sensor, that whatever-you-call-it-on-the-spark-plugs thats under the engine cover. We never fixed it and decided to live with it.

Thanks for any help.

Test the fuel pressure. This is an absolute blindass guess, but a fuel pump isn't out of possibility.

oh yeah, we did that, too, in the previous problem. I mean, none of this swapping we did about a year ago doesn't mean it can't be part of the new problem. I'd just thought I'd say so since we did so much and I've forgotten most of it.

By chance ... do you have an air leak? Anywhere near the intake/exhaust system? That is the only thing that I can think of.

^^ I've thought about that. But how would I figure it out? I've felt around and I don't feel anything. It's also possible because its sporadic that it's sealed most of the time and flexes open only occasionally... I'm guessing of course.

The only way that I would know ... put dish soap around the seals. That way ... it would bubble up if air is comming out. Kinda like when you were little with the bubble blowers. I don't know about the heat though, I don't want to be the cause of a fire, lol (if it can even start on fire) Also, how is the IAT sensor?

Yup, IAT, too.

I just looked up online and there was a suggestion to spray carb cleaner around the intake. If there's a hole it would suck he cleaner in, causing it to rev.

Heres some advice.

How about you go to Autozone, and tell them to give you one of everything since you love to toss parts at your car

Yeah, don't need to. I had two Cavaliers. We just swapped parts. I just swapped the parts between the cars for everything except the oil pump. Cost $0.

I'm smarter than you look.

BTW, we did all that because NO ONE, which now includes a factory certified nissan technician, could figure out the rough idling problem. The dealer's guess was the oil pump. There was a huge thread regarding this a few years ago that would definitely be in the top 10 of all time for JBO.

Never got resolved. I'm really just after the second problem, now.
