I have a 2001 Cavy with the standard 2200 engine. After the car warms up to normal operating temps, there is a slight ticking coming from the engine. Oil changed on a regular basis with Valvoline Maxlife(89,000 mlies). Should I change oil or possibly get some Lucas in there??? Or should I plan for a funeral? I hope not!!!! Any advise would be great!!!!!
Stock or not.....It's Still a J !!!
I wouldn't plan for a funeral yet, see if you can find someone with a stethoscope or pick one up at you local parts store for about 20$ and see if you can locate the exact area the sound is comming from. It could be a fuel injector ticking instead of a valvetrain problem. If the oil is due for a change soon it couldn't hurt to do it sooner. best of luck to ya
I agree. Could just be an injector. It may be too late but also try some injector cleaner. The lucas oil stabilizer is always a good idea! I don't do any oil change without it.
let us know!

Mine has done the same thing for the last 40,000 miles. Sounds fine when cold, develops a tick at operating temperature. If it turns out to be serious, let me know.

Is the noise louder when it's cold, or does it stay constant?

For me, the noise is almost undetectable when the engine is cold, and is loudest when the engine is fully heated up. It sounds like that might be how it is for Freddy too.

Thats exactly what is going on. When the engine is cold no ticking. When it reaches normal operating temps that when you hear it, but only at idle RPMs. Geeky have you already tried Lucas for yours and if so did it make it any better?

I haven't done anything outside of regular oil changes with 10w30. I've got about 100,000 miles on my engine, and have more or less gotten used to the noises it makes. I've also found that it makes extra racket under acceleration when hot. My father has informed me that "as long as you don't do anything stupid, that engine will still be ticking away long after the body rusts off." I'm inclined to agree that is probably true.

if you had serious injector issues like a leaking injector you would definitely smell gas. with this engine i think it's a non-issue unless it gets worse.
