Hello..I have a problem with my 98 Sunfire GT. it has a 97 engine in it.. I left the lights on one night all night, I totaly drained my battery ever sents then It well not hold a charge ..I changed battery same thing, well not hold a charge I can get it boosted but a minute or two later the battery would die and the car would shut off..I have gotten the alternator rebuild a month ago so that would not be the problem ..I am guess it could be the computer ...any ideas?
thanks

Sounds like your alternator is bad again. Maybe just the rectifier. Go get it tested again.

Bad Alternator, you battery is trying to run the car, when it looses all it's juice, your car can't make spark, run the fuel pump or power the injectors.

The car doesnt make spark.

The ignition coil has 12V all the time, it builds up a magnetic field, and when the transistor turns off it collapses producing a secondry high voltage spark.

As far as your issue goes, go to Pep Boys $21.99 charging system diagnosis.

The Battery is obviously not receiving a charge but it may not be the alternator at fault.

You will have to do as ROB S suggests and get the charging system tested or at least get a meter on it and post readings.

Lots of things can cause a no charge situation

Yesterday I got the alternator tested it was fine but I guess when i put it on i did not tighten the connection wire all the way and it shorted out ..got it fixed ran all day ..but when i started it up again later that night it started doing the same thing i just made it home and it died again...so alternator?something robing the power away from the battery? or maybe its the computer....clueless

Try disconnecting and reconnecting the connector/plug on the alternator.

Check this link:-

You will have to get someone/yourself with a meter or take it to a shop to find out what is wrong.
