Engine Mount or what?
Monday, April 30, 2007 10:30 AM
hey, I have a problem with my car seem's to be an awful pile of movement in either my motor, or transmission. When I shift from reverse to drive, i can hear a clicking noise, and feel it pretty good, almost seem's it's under my feet but not sure. When I put the car in park on a side of a hill and let go the brake, she goes a head a lil bit, and you can hear it again sqeeking. Seems to be a motor mount completly wore out, but i'm not sure if that's it. I replaced my top motor mount last year.
The car is a 2000, 2.2l sunfire, Automatic.

Okay what do you want us to do. We cant inspect your car to see if your other mounts are shot.

Usually trans mounts you will fell the shifts more. With motor ones you will have more of a viberation and idle.
One way I test mounts, is to put your foot on the brake, and on gas at about 2000RPM, let the brake go, and if you can feel a rough shake, or hear a loud clunk you have a bad mount.

lol, you can also see if your engine mounts are worn out if you get alot of movement from then engine on startup or when its given gas.

Usually the lower mounts go first, so if you had to replace the top one cause it was warn then your bottom mount is probably shot.

hey, there is alot of movement when i start up the engine, and it seem's to make the start-up more of a struggle. Is there much trouble changing these bottom mounts? Thanks

bottom mounts are fairly easy, especially if you have a lift.. but i had my mechanic do my lower and upper in an hour for $60CND

Check your lower motor mount, if you can see light through it, it's toast. Also, couldn't hurt to add some tranny fluid to the transmission, see if that helps with the hard shifts. What happened when you are driving about 10 to 15 mph and shift from D into 2? Is it a hard thump or smooth shift. By hard thump, I mean does it feel like you hit a pothole or does it feel like you ran into deep water.

hey i just took the car out and tryed out what you said, and it sounds like a hit a pothole for sure. When I shifted it from D-R,i could hear the noise, also i stepped on the gas and i can feel the jolt. Like something is wore. Is the bottom motor mount that dog bone looking thing?? Thanks alot.

Yes, the lower mount looks like a dogbone thing. RKSport makes a replacement out of tubular steel and urethane bushings. VERY reasonable price. Can get the upper insert too for it for just a little more $$$$.
