Tune up?
Wednesday, April 25, 2007 11:21 AM
ok....so mu ECO is my first Distrubtor-less car....

im used to changing the plugs, cap, rotor, oil, oil filter, & air filter when i tune it up...

so, my question is, is there any maintenance that goes along with the way the eco's ignition is setup? i mean aside from the plugs....is there anything else that should be changed?

thanks guys

the fuel injector cleaner is debatable. personally i wouldn't add it as there's plenty of detergency in most high quality fuels to help keep the injectors clean as you drive. also it's probably a good time to replace the pcv valve if equipped, and check the coolant and transmission fluids. if you're close to 100,000 kms (about 70,000 miles) then these areas should be taken care of, given that i see yours is an '03.

so, my checklist would be:

- high quality oil (grade per manufacturer's specification) and filter (@!#$ fram filters)
- check plugs, replace if necessary. use oem plugs preferably
- check spark plug wires, perhaps replace, again use oem preferably
- fuel filter should be replaced if this was never done before
- check coolant and transmission fluids, flush and fill (transmission fluid should be clean and pink, if brownish or smells burnt do pan and filter, dexcool should be flushed every 5 years or 200,000 kms whichever first per gm's recommendation but since yours is an 03 i'd say do it now if this was never done before, otherwise you'll need to do it next year anyway)
- check battery and connections
- check air filter, replace if very dirty/clogged
- check/replace pcv valve

No plug wires, just a plug cartridge. If you do a search, someone on here posted a complete "changin' my sparkplugs" post with pictures. I just changed mine a few weeks ago, super easy job on the ecotec. Theres just one little metal piece holding your throttle cable in place that you have to yank off. I litterely just bent it off with almost no effort.
