I have a '96 Sunfire. Over the past few years I've had 1 or the other lowbeam go out several times. Each tim eI took it to a shop it was $60/$80 to fix. So my passenger lowbeam just went out. I noticed one wire was broke, so I fixed that. Suddenly neither low beam worked, but both high beams work. Any idea what is wrong? Thanks.

your definately not the only person having this problem....97 sunfire over here...no lows or drls and completely baffled
my cavalier as of last weekend just lost drl high beams and low beams .... i checked the lights and the relays themselves and there is power at the relays and the lights . What is missing is ground on my system .High and low beams are both ground switched and there seems to be no signal coming from the headlightswitch itself so ill go the wreckers on thursday morning to get a used switch (i think i have time before i go to the DR.'s to become all juice no seed)
FFFUKCCC..i have the same damn problem, it just happened yesturday!
Last spring it happened to me, no low beams. I ended up finding the wire that goes from drivers headlight to passenger headlight was corroded in one spot. Soldered in a new peice of wire, and she worked mint until yesturday.. I spent a good 2 hours in there tracing over the wires. I could not find one corroded place or anything..
Does anyone know if the lighting wiring is a bithc to change? im thinking of a new harness, i am pretty sure it is not my switch, since the last time i thought it was and bought a new one, then foudn the corroded wire, however things can go wrong in my cavalier over night....tisk tisk..
Ok so here was my thinking this morning...It must be the switch, here is why: When i would turn on the headlights, the DRL warning light remained lit on the cluster. Thus leading me to believe that it was the problem.
After my shift was over, i turned the car on, and like always by habit, turn on my headlights, no DRL light on..so i get out and check the front, and the headlights are back on, WTF?!?!...glitch in the switch?? i don't know...ghost/gremlin??? im glad they are back on now, but I dont want to be out some night and have no headlights to drive home....weird...
jacking your thread--> replaced the headlight switch and the headlights work mint now..its tits
i have the Identical problem, how did you fix yours, was it the dimmer switch?
Thanks

I have had this same problem for three years. I have repaced the multi-function switch 5 times. There has to be some other cause for the phenomenon. I called Pontiac and they claim they know nothing about a problem, but in searching the web it is a fairly common problem. If any one out there knows a sure cure for this, please post it. Except for this one problem I love the car. Thanks
its all in the harness, i had a similar problem. I took the harness next to the radiator apart and found about 6 corroded wires. 5 on one end 1 on the other....wired everything up and now it all works normal.....check the harness....just take it all apart as much as you can....especially at wet spots

yep, i had the same problem...wires corroded...i'd check from the plug underneath the battery to both headlights.
