Cooling issue

Ok, so I have a 95 Sunfire gt (2.3) and as of late its been having some cooling issues..... while driving and decent speeds (40-50km/h and up) its fine, but as soon as you come to a stop the gauge rises quickly to the line that separates the normal from the yellow/red (I havent let it get past that, I usually start moving before that happens....). It makes it there in about 30-60seconds, sometimes more, sometime less. Its got plenty of coolant and has had a flush about 3-4months ago. Water pump was done at about 130-140000kms, and its got 245000 on it right now. Any ideas for what could be causing this? Thanks

Your cooling fan should kick on when the temp reaches around 3/4 (also when you turn the a/c on) and bring the temp down, if it doesnīt the temp keeps going up unless you move the car and get some air through the radiator, so Iīll suspect the sender or temp valve (not sure how it is called) that activates the fan is faulty, but first check the connector to the cooling fan(also itīs relay and fuse) it may be rusted or fried, all are cheap parts, mine did the same thing replaced the connector and it is ok

Ahh, forgot to mention that the fan comes on, but the temp continues to increase

In that case if the cooling fan is on when it should be not only sometimes and if there is no coolant loss, you may have air in the system, a faulty thermostat, clogged radiator or the timing is not set correctly, that is my best guess, good luck solving this an overheated engine is going to suffer some damage for sure.
