Need a headlight harness
Thursday, April 12, 2007 12:00 AM
I have a 98 2.4 turbo cavalier. 1st my low beams died, now my high beams died. I heard its a common problem. wiring is all junk. I called dealer for harness and they said $499!!

Does anyone have one ? I personally dont feel like going to find one at a junk yard and pulling it out

Let me know.

Ps. What is the main problem these harnesses and lights die. wasnt it a recall back then?

only problem i've ever heard of is using bulbs that were too high of wattage and melting the harness.

The last year or so, I've been having the same problems. Last fall, I lost the regular beam on the drivers side. This spring again, I lost regular beams on both sides. My neighborhood mechanic was able to troubleshoot and repair the wiring in both cases, but this last time I got told that it was almost more trouble than it was worth. It took almost two hours shop time to track down a ground short in the spaghetti of rotting wires in the harness. My understanding is that the harness basically starts to rot in the area underneath the battery.

I'm just waiting until the bandaid fix fails again. I was going to ask about replacing the whole harness if it happens again, but if it's as costly as you were told, I might just have to keep up the bandaids. Then again, I might be forced to if this shop time keeps piling up.
