i have a 98 2.4. were the thermostat pipes connect its leaking coolant. i went to my local gm dealership to see if there is a gasket that goes between the two pipes and the thermostat. they said there is no gasket just the O ring that goes around the thermostat. i installed everything, filled it with coolant and ya it leaks. alright this time i buy some form a gasket around it then bolt it together and again it leaks coolant. So what should i do to stop this. Thanks for your advice.
are the bolts tightened? is the O ring set properly? like they said there is no gasket just the O ring
yes the o ring is seated properly and the bolts are as tight as i can get them
hey just an update incase anyone else has this problem. i took the thermostat out and the pipe that it goes in. around the edges were the thermostat sits there was a little bit of crap. i took a wire brush and cleaned it out very good but it all back together and no leak.

Good on ya for finding and fixing it, but that should have been done the 1st time, I guess now you know though.
