Hi everyone, wondering if someone could identify what happened to my car, I'm guessing a blown head gasket and maybe something else. Alright well first I think i bent a valve, or the wrapping, which then created this not too obnoxious but light sound of almost like you clipped a card to your bicycle spokes and it made that rapid snapping/clicking sound I should say. I noticed the performance of the engine was strange and seemed to have worsened ever since. I left the car on idle while I went into the house for maybe 20 mins, and i went out to find the car stalled. I tried starting it but then it appeared that the battery died? so I placed a booster on the battery terminals for a bit and finally the car started but along came this very obnoxious and loud clanking sound along with that rapid card flapping against bicycle spoke sound which was louder. The sound got worse when the car was accelerated, this is when i noticed the car was critically low on oil, It hadn't crossed my mind to get an oil change, etc i been having a very busy month, with work, the family, bills, etc... I was driving to a friends house to get it checked out until the car stalled, and i got worried... but it did start back up till about maybe lets say 4-5 miles it lasted till I heard this loud bang come from the engine and the car completely died. There was some smoke, and the antifreeze which was the green liquid, leaked and poured out of the engine onto the road... Now, what do you all think happened to the engine? is it just a blown head? a head gasket? both? other things? please inform me so I know what to purchase and evaluate the costs. PLEASE and THANK YOU for those of you who had taken the time and effort in reading this long post and replying!
Best regards and thanks!
Steve
Have you inspected the engine block yet Steve?. Basically youre gonna have to do a bit of trouble shooting, First find out where the coolant is leaking from, Then check the rad and oil dip stick for signs of coolant in oil, Also pull each spark plug out, Inspect them carefully, Also do a compression test done on each piston cyl. Drain oil to inspect for other possible internal engine damage like timing chain, spun Bearing, Broken piston wrist pin, etc.
Good Luck.
keep us updated.
oil not only lubricates but reduces temperature as well. Without oil you have both excessive heat and friction. It's only a matter of time until this would have happened. You need a new block or new car. sorry
Sounds like a damn expensive lesson...
How long was it since you changed the oil last? How many quarts were you down?
That's crazy yo...
