i was driving home from work two days ago on the highway and passed acouple of cars i went to pass another and i seemed to have no more get up and go. then the car started makin knocking and ticking noises in sync with the acceleration so i pulled over into a parking lot cause i made it to the city by then and opened the hood and checked the oil it was full but a bit of smoke was coming out of the crankcase so istarted it back up and it sounded horrible at idle it was sorta chuggin and clackin but really loud . so i drove it home and the noise was loud up to 3000rpm and fairly quiet beyond untill you let of the gas and then it gets loud again . anyways i get home and have my cousin check out the situation cause hes a mechanic by trade and he tells me that its a rod bearing thats shot .can someone tell me if this is likely the problem and if it is what should i do now can it be repaired or do i need a new engine or do i get a performance rebuild or ditch the car but i would like to keep my ride any help would be great
If it was me, I'd go for a GM crate motor. I think the 2.4L goes for around $2500+shipping with a 12month/12K mile warranty. That's not remanufactured mind you. GM crate motors are brand spanky new. Or you can get a good rebuild from places like The Power Source online shipped to your door for $3000 with a 5 year warranty + a small core charge. Or buy a can of Marvel Mystery oil and dump it in there and drive her untill she explodes in a ball of flame. You have full coverage don't you?
no more coverage on my car if you were meaning warranty wise . ibought it used on the lot 4 years ago roughly .she goin in to the shop this morning and i will find out the exact problem the sad thing is there is only 140k on her the motor should have been good for a while yet mind you i push her hard sometimes (nobody likes to lose a race)the prices you show is that U.S dollars? iwas sorta thinkin bout a JBP crate engine or contacting Mantapart for a hybrid engine but im unsure about the reliability of either place and their product but they seem to make nice Hp on their motors verses a stock GM engine unless GM can hop up the 2.4 other than supercharging it
