hey guys so my engine is blown, a connector rod bearing is gone. so my question to you is. this.
what years 2.4l can i put in with very little to no modifications. my car is a 99 (damn).
i have a couple options so far. i can choose from 2 1997 engines. now i know that i need to use an EGR block off plate. but those engines were with getrag tranny's how do i find out if my 99 has one. if i remember correctly it was made in early 99.
i also can get another 99 2.4 but its a standard tranny. ( i know that doesnt make a difference) but how do i know if my tranny will fit with that motor.
and i just wating to see what engine is best for me cause the 99 is in wrecked cav and the old man at the wreckers doesnt want to start it. or try andput power to it to see the mileage.
and one 97 is just an engine. im not sure if its an a car or not to see if it runsand that engine was also swapped into that car. so im not 100% sure that the mileage he tells me is correct.
and the other 97 is in a sunfire GT but has a wirin harness issue. so far this one has 130k on it wich i should be abble to see when i put power to it. but i dont know if the wiring harness issue will even allow the engine to start or not. i know i'll be using my harness i just want to hear any of the engines run.
so presuming all engines run fine wich should i get (btw the 97 engine and the 99 out of cars are both 800 and tthe one in the car is 500)
some 99's and all 00+ 2.4's had the getrag manual trannies. the only way the 97's would have getrags would be if they were swapped over, they came with isuzu trannies (manual). but your car is auto, so dont worry about that lol.
you only need an egr blockoff if the engine that came in your car has one. the 97's didnt come with them. the egr plate was a part of a number of redesigns for some 99's ( no egr, smaller starter, different intake to accomidate no egr, getrag trannies if manual, different auto's, etc). now, if your motor came with the block off plate that most likely means that you have the other changes.
any tranny that came on a 2.4 will bolt up to any 2.4, manual or not. a number of ppl have upgraded their 96-99 isuzu trannies to getrag trannies. but if your auto is still good, just drop the tranny off the new motor and reuse yours and you're set.
if the motor which came with your car has the egr plate on it, you can re use that, the intake, and the starter on the new motor you put in. if your car has the egr plate, you NEED to switch it over to your new motor, or you will have computer problems.
as for which motor you should choose, pick the one with the least amount of miles on it, and has the least amount of problems. wont matter which tranny it came with (because you can reuse yours if its still good), or which design of motor it is (because u can reuse ur parts if need be)
that's my advise. lol kinda a lot but i think i get what ur looking for
hope that helps.
Just use the 99 exhaust manifold and don't worry about the Egr.

this was the only thing i wasnt 100% on. i thought they were put in some of em (kinda like only some still had an egr), but i could be wrong. but whether or not they are in the 99's wont really effect him if he sticks with his auto.

You are still alive and trolling the boards I see. Took me a few to figure it out.

Cool...I was 99% sure getrags were only 2k+ as well.
Hopefully the original poster's question has been answered since we all managed to get off-topic a bit.
