Hey guy i just got me a 96 z24 and i thought i was running great but then i raced my buddy who has an 02 z and he spanked me bad. My car has 135k miles now what can i do to restore my lost power. Any info would be great. Thanks
Eli
well what are his mods and what are yours?Do you both have autos?Complete tune-up,w/GOOD set of plugs, next oil change put in some Engine Restore or Lucas and read up in the Performance Forum. You can also look into Seafoam too. There is a thread on it somewhere in this forum I believe.

Both of us are stock and auto's. Well his car is lowered but that won't make a difference. What kinda plug do you recommend? I just put in new acdelcos but i know they are not the best. Let me know the best things to do to get my cars power back to where it should be.
Good full tune up with plugs (AC delo platiums) / air filter / fuel filter / should bump u back up to good performance. Good Cleaning of the throttle body will do the job as well. Some times motors get wornout due to previous wear & tear on interial parts.
Good Luck
your car has 130k+ miles on it. my bet would be that his car only has about 50-70k. its simple, your engine is older, therefore more worn out. your motor has been worked, and probably lost compression over time. not much, but enough that wear over the years has dropped it over the newer, less beaten motor on the 02, and weaken the power output. my suggestion would either be an engine rebuild (piston rings, head gasket, clean out the clinders, if the pistons are scored and scratched replace em, rods, bearings, lifters, valves, valve springs, etc... basically replace aything thats worn out) or just go to a junkyard and find an engine with less milage on it. check up on anything different between the two and drop it in.

whatever your choice good luck man
Well i know that is part of it. The only part you are wrong about it his car has almost 120k on it so the miles are not to far apart. im going to try that engine restore and see what happens. Thanks guys.
lol i took an educated assumption.
i just replaced my plugs with NGK TR55GP s from napa. Made a huge difference from the AC delcos. o i have a 03 though
if he is an 02 he might have an eco, wont beat him anyway.

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again
Try the Bosch Platinum+4 plugs. I've got a set in my '01 Z24 and it's runs really well on those. Since you're running a small fairly efficient engine the small gap in the +4 plugs helps the ignition of the charge (if you were running a bored out 350 then the gap would be pretty small given that the amount of fuel dumped in and the amount of carbon deposits generated).
I also threw in some engine restore a while back to give it a shot and I can tell you I'll be putting it in at every oil change! It's not goin' to fix a rod that's knocking but it does help smooth things out some.
