Hey guys/gals, my 97 sunfire is back with another problem . I am getting an awful clunking noise on the driver side rear whenever I hit a bump or brake/accelerate. It's something like "ku-clunk" if you could understand . It only happens when it's dry out, if its wet outside, the noise goes away, so it's almost like a lubrication problem but I have no clue. It really loud, and I can hear it over my music. Anyone have any ideas?
might be bad strut mounts in the rear, my 96 cavi has similar probs.

You should check your drum out on that side and spray it up with break cleaner....also you should auto reset the breaks.
I had a similar problem when I installed in struts. It was coming from the passenger rear. So I got new strut mounts and after a day everything was cool. Then a couple of days later the noise was back but now on the driver rear. I can't figure it out. I reseated everything and tighen everything no clue.
Haveing the same noise problem, replaced rear shocks and noticed the upper strut mounts were destroyed, replaced them and everything was better. All in all $40 for each shock, and about $20 for the upper strun mounts and mounting parts. No more noise, thats all that matters...
