Axle questions?
Sunday, April 01, 2007 6:40 PM
I was driving my car today and noticed that when turning usually right, but sometimes left too, I got that wonderful clicking noise from the front end. Now I know that my passanger side axle has a tear in the cv boot so it is going to go out, but the clicking was very inconsistant I did a bunch of left and right hand turns and it only clicked maybe half the time, is that just because it is slowly going bad and eventually it will click at every turn until it eventually fails? And it only clicked under acceleration, if I just coasted around the corner it didn't click. I have seen a few of my friends change axles on civics and it doesnt seem that hard but i suppose that GM made ours a pita to change. Is this something I should save my money and do it myself or should I pay someone to do it? Also what tools are required to do it myself? And where is a place to get good axles?

Changing the CV joints on cavaliers are pretty easy, U need 30mm deep impact socket, Also 2 ft long flat screw driver, To pop and pry on easy the cv joint out. Otherwise its pretty straight forward, 10mm to 24mm socket set will be plenty for the job.

Good Luck.

It's easier to just change the whole axle.
