1993 Cavalier HELP!
Wednesday, March 28, 2007 3:48 PM
Ok so my g/f's car started acting funny last night.

We were pon our way home and the temp gauge started to go up rapidly. We pulled over, let it chill then continued home. Got all the way to our appt. entrance, and her car stalled ( temp gauge was normal at this point). We started it back up, and it was running really reallly rough. We made it back to our appt. and then went inside. Went back out a little later and it started right up and drove and ran fine.

Now this morning, it would start but was doing the same thing as last night, really really rough and then shut off, and the temp gauge shows its all the way up.

So her dad thinks its the thermostat, which is where?

He would help us but we live 2 hours from him.

Any other input on what it could be?

I need to know what size of motor, you got. I tell you the location of the thermostat housing, Also when youre car was acting funny were you getting any check engine light on? Also I would first start with thermosat changed as well, Also are you losing any coolant?. Is the motor oil golden brown, No milky coloring?. Also could have a bad temperature sending unit, Thats failing.

Keep Us updated,

good luck.

What about fuel?

Could it be a clogged fuel filter or bad fuel pump?

Could explain the intermitten issues.

Could be either the coil pack is gone or ur crankshaft position sensor. The code for the crankshaft is 19 if u run a diagnostic on it.The only choice u have with the coilpack is to replace it.Normally when the engine just turns over but has NO spark indicates one of the two above in most cases.Pull a plug wire and have someone turn it over see if u have spark if not replace the coilpack. If after doing that and still no start or if u can bypass the system to check for codes using a jumper wire between the A and B connection and check for flashes 12 is no codes. If u do not know how to buy a haynes manual it is clearly pictured and walks u thru the whole simple process.U may find something online I just use my scanner but a wire jumper does the same. And do not start the car when u do this just the key ON this grounds the circuit to run a diagnostic.OK
