Instantly Starts..........Then Dies. Please Read :(

Hey Gang!

So here's my story/problem.

2 weeks ago I came out to the car, after driving it earlier in the afternoon, and went to start it. It started instantly like normal, but then died after a few seconds of being on. I tried starting it multiple times and same thing kept happening. So I left it over night. The next day, same thing. So I called a tow truck to take it to the shop. Well when it gets there, it starts right away, and stays started.

Car runs fine for 2 weeks...............

Today I come out to the car, after driving it earlier, and start it, then instantly dies. Once started it seems like it could stay on if I give it gas, but giving it gas makes it die faster. I have no clue other than maybe a starter problem. Please any insite would be great.

I have a 96 Cav, 2.4L, 2 month old alternator, 6 month old battery.

sounds kind of like what my car did when my fuel pump died... sit in your car and listen for the pump to come on (sounds like buzzing comming from under neath the rear seat) you dont have to start the car just turn the key to on.

Clint I had that problem as well, it was my fuel pump ground being loose..check it, it's under the drivers side mat, by the seat you should find a ground there with a few wires attached to it...I also had that problem you described days before the fuel pump packed it in, the car either worked or didn't.

Don't buy from MANTAPART!!

Sounds like either your fuel pump or theft system malfunctioning. Either way not getting fuel.

Definately a band ground on the Negative battery cable. Probably right at the battery tray. I had the exact same problem. Check my post on BC-J for more info.

This happened to my friends 03 Cavi.
He had taken his car to the dealer for some sort of repair that involved taking the engine and tranny out...
After the repair the ABS light was coming on intermitently. He couldn't start the car. But was able to Roll start (Bump) the car and it ran fine.
After taking it back to the dealer they realized that they forgot to ground something on his engine. (Or that's what they said. It was probably a simplist term. So we actully didnt ask where the grounding problem was)
But if it were my guess. I was put my money on a ground problem... Try running a Cable from the alternator to the frame, Then another from the frame to the -Negative on the battt. (As in the Big 3) Very inexpensive to do, and if you have a sterio it helps alot for your power.
