Sunfire problem
Wednesday, March 21, 2007 6:59 AM
My friend has a 95 Sunfire with the 2.2 and a 5-speed. She complained of it stalling on her. Then a few days later the car wouldn't start. I took a look at it and noticed she is not getting any spark, but I smelled fuel. I tested the #1 spark plug wire and got nothing. I figured it was the crankshaft postion sensor, so I threw one on, still nothing. I'm gonna try coil packs next, but before I go and spend more money, I fugured you'd give this newbie some hints or suggestions. I've been a troll for a long time, so thanks in advance, Ryan.

P.S. The motor turns over smoothly, so it's not a T-belt or chain.

No CEL's are showing then? Is #1 the only one with no spark?

Yeah there are no CEL's at all. I checked #1 and saw nothing so I figured the rest would be like that. I'll have to see if the rest are like that, which I'm pretty sure is the same (nothing).

There are more knowledgeable people on the org than me but if at least one cylander is not showing spark then coils are the way to go. Maybe throw some new wires on there too.

I forget is the 95 2200 a 'wasted spark' ignition?

It was the coil packs. I replaced both of them and she fired right up. Thanks for the info guys hope this helps any J Body owners out.
