Oil spill in drive way, how to clean?
Sunday, March 25, 2007 5:34 AM
I changed my oil yesterday and i spilt all kinds of oil in the girlfriends fathers driveway, anyone know how to clean it up; is there any secrets to cleaning up the oil , will there always be a stain there where i spilt the oil?
I know sand or kitty litter will soak it up.
Sorry i did not know where to post this topic, its probally in the wrong section.
Thanks

use kitty litter and grind it in with your foot. we used to clean oil stains out of the work p-lot that way.

Friendly tip: next time, lay a large cardboard box flat out under the car before working. Been a do-it-yourself tradition for years. Cheap insurance for spill avoidance, AND makes for far easier sliding around than concrete or black top.

If its concrete: try some brake cleaner and a couple Scott shop towels.

If its blacktop: Simple Green. It does a great job and its biodegradable. The oil & crap isn't...but the cleaner is. It makes people feel better about getting it on their lawn.

Good luck

cat litter to soak it up when wet, then more cat litter, a brick, and elbow grease (use the brick to grind the litter into the oilspot)

If it is stained after the oil dry use a small amount of bleach let it sit a few minutes and wash off,I know it may not b the enviro thing to do but will remove the stain for sure.I do this if its stained the concrete and other methods like above did not do the job.

Powdered Tide, a stiff bristled push broom and a hose. Trust me, best shop floor cleaner there is.
