Solution for Hurt Hands During Filter Change -

The 4 speed automatic is apparently too big for the design of the j-body....

It makes reaching down from above to remove and replace the oil filter
(about the only way for access) rough on the hand, especially the backside...

If you have a pair of "lifting gloves" like body builders use, they will protect
the hand except for the fingers....

In Wal-Mart's sporting good department this kind of glove was priced at $8.88...

A great investment....

mechanix makes gloves with padding on the knuckles for reasons like this.

Try getting at it from the passenger side up top. '96 2.2 here, and that's what I do all the time. Gotta work it just a bit past the A/C hoses, but it works OK. You'll always need gloves to work hot oil filters, it's the nature of the beast.
