Fast Idle On 2000 2.4L until motor warm up
Thursday, March 22, 2007 6:35 AM
Im just inquiring about anyone else who may experience this issue. Well I'm not totally sure it's an issue or not.

1.)Start car, Starts up just fine with RPM at about 1500rpm on initial startup only.
2.)RPM slowly drops to about 1200RPM after a min or two
3.)Let car warm up for a couple min and RPM still at about 1200RPM. (which seems to run a bit fast)
4.)Go to drive away and RPM still the same.
5.)Drive down the street and say stop at stop lights and RPM still about the same 1100-1200RPM even though the car has started to warm up a little maybe 1/4 temp on the guage.
6.)Car runs and drives fine in stop/go traffic but my RPM doesnt seem to drop to normal idle until the car is at 1/2 temp
7.)When car is at 1/2 temp and hot car RPM at stop is probably in the range of 900-950 where even normal idle is.

To try and cure this problem I went out and bought a new IAT sensor from the dealer and installed it the other day. I unhooked the battery, Pulled the IAT sensor out of my AEM intake tube. Put the new one in and plugged the connector back in.

Is this idle thing normal b/c the motor just isn't warm enough or could it be caused by to much cold air in the morning going through my intake? Are there any other temperature sensors? What about the throdle Position sensor?

Any help would be appriciated. If that's just the way it is that's just the way it is.

Regards,

IAC could need to be re-set or cleaned

Idle Air Control, located on your throttle body, held in by two Torx screws and has a plug in the end of it.Take it out and clean with some carb cleaner,re-install.In the Chilton's manual there is a two or three step process to re-set the IAC,but I can't remember what it was,it's like turn ignition on for 5 sec.turn off, turn ignition back on for 10 sec.,turn off, then start the car and let idle for a few minutes. All this was on my 98 cav 2.4

^ I think you're talking about this one from Ebay: 160091868564
Looks like it is not a AC/Delco unit. Personally I would not trust it because of it.
But to each their own money and car.

Ill pick up a new one in the coming days. BIGGSZ24 does this item get gummed up like you said? You said to pull it out and clean it off with some carb cleaner. Should I try this first?

Also is the # 12482707 the correct GM part number?

Yes it does, mine was filthy and Mr. Goodwrench wouldn't give you the wrong part# but clean it first and see if that helps, remember to reset the IAC.

Ill try to clean it first then try the try the "turn ignition on for 5 sec.turn off, turn ignition back on for 10 sec.,turn off, then start the car and let idle for a few minutes" like you said. But I hope that it would notice that it was cleaned and would run a bit better.

If not ill try a brand new sensor and see what happens from there.
