Hello all... I have a 97 Cavalier w/ a 2200 SFI engine and manual trans. Whats going on is.. Like every now and again, mainly when the weather is warm. My car will just kinda die, it will still running, but if i give it gas, the engine doesn't rev at all. It happens when driving or starting out from a stop light or etc, so theres no real pattern to it. I can down shift while on the interstate and the RPMs will rise up when i do so, but i give it gas, it won't rev up. Almost as if its not giving the car gas.. I've already changed the fuel pump and fuel filter and changed plugs and wires about 15K miles ago... The on;y way that I found to fix it is, shut it off (usually while coasting) and then restart it and rev it up. After that it "usually" runs alright from anywhere to 100 yards to 15 miles! I'm really confused as to what is going on!! Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!!
Okay well....
Chocies... choices...
Coolant Temp Sensor or the TPS (my first choice) is the best choices on this problem
Other problems stem from the IAT or the MAP sensor to an Ignition or a fuel problem!
Hope it helps....
...They just HATE it when you ...POINT - LAUGH - then DRIVE OFF AND AWAY-!...
Also would like to mention that this only happens when i have half of tank of gas or less... Usually at a 1/4 tank though... hope that helps....
It just did it again tonight(it got warm out today)... i'm thinking the Intake Air Temp. Sensor?? Anybody agree?? Since the problem only excists when the weather is warm... any help would be GREATLY APPRIECIATED!!!
Ok first if you don't have a book for your car GET ONE! It will tell you how to test every sensor on your car thats much better that looking around pointing blindly and saying "ok its that one" and replacing it.
