Are you having unexplained electrical gremils popping up in your baby? How is your battery and terminal connections? Computer controlled cars depend upon a strong battery with good current paths. If your battery is weak or there is a lot of corrosion built up on the terminals (the powdery white stuff that builds and covers everything) you may not be getting all the amperage needed to properly run your systems. Clean the terminals, cover them in a light coat of grease and have your battery checked. After five years even a long life battery may be near the end of that long life.
If this still fails to fix the problems web sites such as ALLDATA.COM are very detailed and list every recall and TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) for these cars, as well as almost every car on the road today. Good luck.
you have a very good point.
but i would also like to add that the problem is not always the battery, even when that is what is diagnosed as the problem.
battery testing and charging requires a very good connection as well before any service can be done on the battery. making sure the terminals are clean and corrosion free is a very good start before you test your battery to troulble shoot any problems. also, especially in side terminal battery cases like ours in our j- bodies, need to have a proper connection before you test them.
i cant remember how many batteries that have been returned to my work where people have said the battery "wont hold a charge". i have had people come in complaining that this is their second or third battery, that they need to jump start or trickle charge the battery every month because it always seems to fail on them.
the battery is not always the problem. bad grounds, shorts, bad alternators and even bad connections between your battery/ alternator/ starter should be looked at aswell.
most of the people who come in returning a battery end up getting a full refund because its still under the free replacement warranty. we dont have a tester at my work because we dont do installs, we only sell batteries, so i cant tell people to f-off and take their perfectly good battery with them.
anyways, i thought i would just throw my 2 cents in.
