Cannot get pass. Side half shaft out for the life of me!

96 2.4L automatic..
broke the halfshaft in an accident.. i pulled it out.. got most of it off.. im left with about a 3'' piece hanging out of the tranny i guess seperated when i pulled the actual halfshaft out.. i dont know why this piece didnt come out when i pulled the rest but it didnt.. anyway ive tried to lock visegrips on it and pull to hell i cannot get it out .any ideas?

Get a good pry bar between it and the trannie.

don't use a pry bar, you can and will damage the transmission housing (made of Aluminum)....when I had to do my engine swap, my father used a pry bar to get the shafts out, broke a hole in the tranny housing, and then went out a got a new tranny cuz the old one was junk

if it comes dow to it, pull out the other CV shaft, take a long punch and a hammer and tap it out from the other side of the tranny, through the hole the drivers side half shaft came out of

I believe you have to take the driver side shaft out first, then you can slide out the passenger. I just replaced a trans on my 98' 2.4L, and yeah, on removal, out goes the driver side, and the the passenger side slid right out, and on install, passenger in first and driver in last.
