Well my engine is not blown after all. i started to tinker with it this morning planning to pull the head to see what was going on and decided to see if the engine would spin over. Dame thing fired right up but with the same loud knock. at this point im thinking it just has a spun bearing. I pull the pan and the #1 rod bearing is trashed. I bought a rod bearing kit and a new oil pump and im about ready to install everything but I need to know the correct torque specs for the connecting rod end caps.
I was told to the specs are as follows: 15 ft lbs. then 80 degrees rotation.
is this right?
the crank journal was pretty bad on the #1 but ive been working it out with emery cloth and its looking pretty good. I should have the bottom end buttoned up tonight and will probably be driving it tomorrow.
thanks for any help. Josh.
No, that cant be. I have rebuilt several engines but have in over a year now. Anyways I remember the rod caps being around 45-65lbs, than the main caps like 80lbs for an average engine, I dont know exactly these engines, I know your torque spec isnt right though.
Also yes normally it is x amount of rotation, these engines specifally I dont know.
