Hole in the Intake Manifold? Please Help!
Saturday, March 03, 2007 7:17 PM
I just got my car back from the dealer for the ABS problem. I popped the hood to take a look at the new intake tube I just put on to make sure everything was okay. I started giving it some gas using the throttle control under the hood. Next think I hear is a loud pop, then what sounded like Air escaping from somewhere very fast. Kinda like air slowly coming out of a balloon, or almost like a belt squeak. Then it stopped. Now today when I start the car, theres a low pitch sound like Air escaping from somewhere. When I give it gas and start driving the car, it gets very loud. Then when I stop the car, it sits there for a second or two, then goes back to the low pitched sound.

I'm at a loss here, because the engine doesn't seem to have lost any power. It's just a loud sound that sounds like my car is about to explode.

Please help me here. I'm at the end of my string right now. I just put 3000 into fixing the car.

Thats supposed to sound like that, Thats the unrestricted air flow going into the intake tube, I thought the same thing through my friends new intake installed, Co worker makes the same sound as well.

No. I've had an Intake on my car for over a year, and it's never made this sound before. I know something broke because the pop was very, very loud. It made me jump. I'm really confused as to what it could be. Maybe I broke something in the throttle body? I don't know.

I had that with mine, I swore it broke but I just took it off and put some "rtv" on the block and the manifold and that took care of it. But then again mines wasn't broke, the gasket just popped. Look around for the source of the noise see if there is a hole and go from there.

Getting "better built" for the '08...

ok, Sorry I didnt read the post to good, If their is a popping sound, I am sure there is a leak in one of the poly boots that connects the the intake to throttle body. Sounds to be youre got an air leak in the intake area. A piece of vaccum hose or STETHOSCOPE will help you out to narrow down the leak.

Good Luck.
