This last Friday, I was out in the country opening my car up after dropping the girlfriend off at the mall (she's not exactly crazy about when I do that when she's in the car lol). So I launch the car, get through first and second, but the car doesn't feel right. It's just not pulling like it should. Come about 70, the I hear a loud noise (can't really describe it, sorry) and my car starts to sputter and die. I noticed my electrical light come on, as well as my oil light. The car died, I came to a stop and tried to start it back up.
It ran really rough and died a couple more times before it smoothed out. And since then, the car has been making a loud clicking sound. When my car is at idle through about 1000rpm, there is no noise. But otherwise the clicking speed increases as the rpm increases. I checked out the car the next day (it was night when it happened), and from what I can tell, if you stand over the engine, the noise is coming from the left side. If you get down and crawl under the car, it sounds and kinda feels like it is coming from the transmission/clutch.
Anyone have any possible idea or thought as to what this could be? My car hasn't felt right since, there just isn't really any pull or anything like that to it.
One of my friends suggested that one of cams may have locked up, but I really don't think it is that as the engine itself sounds perfectly normal.
Any help on this would be appreciated, as my baby is hurt

My doesn't feel like it has as much pull to it since then. It doesn't really feel as much sluggish as it does like it's loosing power. The motor has about 82,500 miles on it.
Someone else that I had listen to it said that it sounds like the engine might be knocking...possibly a rod or he even said that it could be a fuel injector...

Isolate the problem.
Push in the clutch for a few seconds and let it spin down. Now rev the engine with the clutch still in, do you still hear the noise?

Yep, the noise is still there.
I've since had an ex-mechanic friend of mine take a look at the car and he believes that it is a bad rod bearing. Is this the kind of thing that I would be able to replace myself? Or should I have this taken to a mechanic to do?
I know the longer I let this go, the worse...

I don't own a Z24, but aren't they famous for this sort of thing?

i read somewhere that the 2.4L LD9's are notorious for spinning rod bearings when you rev it higher than 5500RPM, which it sounds like you did.
Something about the oil pump spinning to fast to pump enough oil.
