head gasket maybe ??

well i got a 89 sunbird gt turbo 2.0L 5spd..... and im having issues with the coolant/overheating and what not..... car sat for a year and a half... so i changed the oil cuz it was pretty milky looking, head gasket was just done before i bought it (like 3weeks ago) and it seems everytime i try to see if there is a problem somewere in the system... i let it run for 15 mins or so till i get hots, maybe drive it around the block here and there to get everything moving around in there.... and the coolant goes into the overflow after i let it cool down, and the heater blows hot air inside, and the rad is not blocked or anything... and also on the temp gauage it doesnt seem to move, nor does the fan turn on, but i saw the fan turn on before i bought it, and my buddy said that the car doesnt run hott at all it has always ran cool since he has owned it....now im wondering if anyone knows if this would be just a big air pocket in the coolant system or if the head gasket is gone again.....also another thing my buddy was thinking the other day that maybe if the head gasket is gone that it might went becuase he forget to hook up the waste gate when he was fiddling with soimthing on it and drove without the wastegate hooked up for about half the day...... lemme know if any knows anythign bout it or if ya need more info please i need help ASAP thanks Rob

The first thing I would do, Is check the thermostat (replace it), As well check the oil dip stick to see if their is any milky looking color to the motor oil, If so you got a cyl HD gasket problem, As well could have a crack cyl HD, I would also check youre spark plugs, For signs of coolant yellowish / White. Everything checks out good in those area's listed above, Now is the coolant overheating, Can you hear the coolant bubbling?. Are you losing and coolant with any leaks?. If you temp gauge isnt working you may want to replace Temp sending unit.

Keep us updated on youre findings.

Good Luck.

well i do have another thermostat but the one in the car works cuz we checked it with some boiling water and it open and closes like it should be doing....now as for the milky oil, i have changed the oil and it seemed to be ok but now it is milky again i dunno if that is from just the left over crap that was in it before cuz you wont get all the milky junk out with just one oil change...and you can only hear the coolant bubble once it is really warm AFTER u shut the car off u can hear it bubble and gurgle...also while it runs the coolant bubble or it blows air into the overflow tank on the passenger side....the head gasket was just done on the car last summer maybe??? and when he did it he forgot to hook up the waste-gate line on it and he thinks maybe since he forgot about that, that it might have pushed the head gasket out or something.... (he drove with the waste-gate off for about half a day) and is there a way to figure out if the temp sender unit is working properly or ??? cuz when he had the car he said that the needle never moved all the much when he drove, he said it moved about 1/16".... but thanks for the info up there and today i will go check to see the spark plugs i will check em before running it and i will check em after it been running to operating temp (roughly 10mins) i will post once i find something out this morning thanks Rob

oil is still mily a bit.... and plugs looked the same before and after running it.....well i checked all 4 spark plugs after running it and what not.... and the two middle ones are a nice brown regualr spark plug wear colour... and the first plug on the passenger side isn't as dark as the two middle one which is still ok... but the last one on the driver side is white... looks like it has been running lean or something i dunno but it is white on the plug....and i cant get the damn 3rd one in 2nd one in on the driver side..... cant get the stupid thing to back in right now....
