it might be your a/c compressor clutch. might be something else though.
remove your engine belt and try turning ur a/c clutch . if it's been grinding for a while now u cold easily see metal dust in there.
Also sounds like it could be the timing chain tensioner.
Could be the powersteering pump. Do you notice that the sounds changes or occurs as you move the wheel? iF so I would buy a pint of LUCAS powersteering conditioner. This worked for me, I only used about an once and the noise went away.
I got something like that coming from around the driver side/wheel well, not sure if its on the inside of the car, or in the engine area under the hood, its like something is loose and rattling around, but mine you hear all the time over bumps and stuff, and my check engine light is on, but not sure if that is related.
I am going to get it checked at the dealership tonight and will follow up.
Any suggestions would help.
Thanks.
My friend thinks it may be the water pump? i guess i'll go buy a new one a see if that helps

i will almost guarantee that it is the timing chain tensioner...especially if its never been replaced... i had to do mine around 100k miles (96 2.2) sounds soooooooo much better, the only thing now is lifter ticks....

Is it covered under warranty?
No it isn't considered a recall, and for a '97 it wouldn't be under a factory warranty, unless you have an extended warranty company.
