Windshield wiper transmission

I am attempting to solve the problem of my wipers being stuck in the upright position while the switch is off. I recently looked up the part for a motor, and I got a "Windshield Wiper Transmission" part from GMPartsDirect's website.

Does anyone know whether this part comes complete with the motor and a control module, or will there be other things to order. My mechanic scared the crapola out of me when he told me the replacement parts were going to run about 500 bucks. I told him that I'd do some checking around first. That is a lot of money (pardon the french attempt) for some broken bullsh*t wipers.

Any imput would be appreciated. Thanks.

Huh? Explain your problem again... sounds like a relay or limit switch to me.

The wipers will not stay in the down position when the wiper stalk is switched off. This is a brand new problem, and the only thing I can think of that could've caused it was the ice storm we had here a few days ago. I remember the wipers being buried in ice, but I didn't move them until I could get the ice off and melted. Yesterday when I went to use the wipers, the problem started.

1. Do they stop in the same spot all the time, and they immediately stop and hold that position?
2. Or do they slowly float around after turned off?

If you answered yes to #1, the motor may have skipped a few gears when they were stuck with ice. You can take the assembly apart and match the gears up correctly. It could also be a bumped limit switch.
If #2, you will need that new part you got, since your wipers are probably missing some gears.

Also make sure everything is bolted down tight. Maybe your motor casing came loose?

#1 for sure. They stand upright and in the exact same spot. I may get the motor and assembly, and have it just in case I have to replace it. I am going to put it in myself.....500 bucks is too much and (although its important), wipers are too simple a machine to require such an expensive repair.

Thanks. I spotted it earlier in "search." I actually tried the other method of disconnecting the neg. battery cable (btw...it should be pos. not neg.; you will get the worst sparks with disconnecting neg. cable). The darned wiper continued the same mis-action.

I'll try adjusting the motor and/or just replacing it. I will check with my parts guy over the phone tomorrow as well (he is bit more straightforward than my mechanic).
