so for a few months now i could be sitting at idle minding my own business, and then out of nowhere i get three "Clicks" from under the hood. it sounds like its coming from the passenger side, but i dont know what the hell it would be coming from, does anyone else share my problem, im going on 120k miles soon...
Would youre have AC system? Could be a fuel system regulator clicking, Also could be youre exhaust heat shields.
It's not your engine fan is it? I know when mine turns on it makes a funny sound similar to that.

desires than him who conquers his enemies.

actually i have big A/C related problems, theres a leak somewhere and i havent found it yet since its cold outside, been running with no A/C for a little less than a year now... what would be clicking with the A/C, i mean its sounds like its coming from that area from inside the car...!!!
dont have that problem yet ur ac leak theres a dye u can pump in and look for it one is lime green and the other reacts with black lights hope it helps ur leak.
I know exactly what you're talking about & I made a post about it a while ago...
With my 97 2.4-- Id get a few minutes down the road during warmup & there would be this knocking sound. It would be 3 solid knocks somewhere in the engine bay. Sounds almost like someone knocking on a door...
Come to think of it-- I have not heard that noise in a long time.. I rarely drive my cav but it may have gone away last summer when I removed my a/c.. I'm not sure...
Is it a click click or a knock knock? Big difference I think. Click click is like dirty injectors or cyl heads. Knock knock is worse, like ice pushing through the cooling system or engine misfires. Then in between you have the sounds of leaves in the HVAC fan, or the cooling fan tearing up stray cables, or the intake flapper gasket wearing down.
The rate of the sound is important too, as in how many clicks per second?

3 sounds total, id say it takes a second and a half to get through them all, its a hollow sound...like if you were knocking in an empty coolant resivour (sp)
Well if it does take that long to repeat, I think you can rule out any consistent engine-driven or electric fan issues. Is it something that happens when it's cold out? Might be something expanding, or ice cracking. I had a friend who had a noise like what you are describing and it was ice chunks in his coolant. It made thunking sounds as the car warmed up and the ice dislodged in his radiator.
