just bought a 2.4

I just got a 2.4 for my 98 Z24. It has 30,000 miles on it. Before I stick it in the car, what would be good to change? The water pump is a given. Would you change the whole cam chain tensioner or just the guide/shoe? Ill take whatever advice ya got to offer..
TIA

Im at least puttin a water pump on it, The motor that Im taking out has a real light knock when you hold it at 1500 rpm or so, It was run out of oil. It has 118,000, Id rather take it out and build it and use the low mileage motor for now. I had a 90 Beretta GTZ when it was new with the 2.3 in it, That was a fun car to drive...

I'd say 2.3 oil pump while you have it out. Personally I'd just throw it in as is and build up that other motor.

how long the factory water pump usually last? I'd hate to put this motor in and regret not changing it a month later. Sounds like its alot easier with the engine out...

I'm at 106k miles and no problems so far with the water pump. I don't think you'd have much of a problem since you'd be draining the radiator and putting in fresh antifreeze mix (I hope) which should help it live a bit longer (my fluid has yet to be changed). They're not as big of a problem as people say they are, they're just hard to fix when they go.

Id build up the new/used motor as much as possible. Run your old motor to DEATH!!! (well, maybe not that far) But since your swapping it, Might as well get as much out of it as you can.

...They just HATE it when you ...POINT - LAUGH - then DRIVE OFF AND AWAY-!...

Its pretty much there already, it idles fine but about 2000 rpm it knocks pretty bad, I dont wanna kill it, I might put it together or build it...

Replace the water pump- You'll be kicking yourself later for not doing it.. Mine went at 45k.

30k is pretty low mileage- there shouldn't really be anything else you would have to-- But if you got the extra cash.. prob timing chain, tensioner & guides... I know I would- but I'm the kinda person to do @!#$ the first time...

thats kinda what Im looking at. Its my intentions to put this engine in and other than maintenance things, not need to open it again for a long time...
