Ok, I've been having a problem with my car that only happens in the winter when it's really cold out. I will start the car and put my foot on the brake to put the car in gear, but the button on the shift nob will not go down. Normally I let the car warm up for at least 15 minutes, go out, and the button is STILL hard to press down. However I can force it down, put it into drive, and away I go.
I drive the car a short distance, and put the car into park (The button is now stuck in the 'down' position from me forcing it down earlier). When I turn off my car my key does not turn back the whole way because the shift button is still stuck. Normally if I leave the car alone for a while I can go out later and take the key out once the shift button has come back up.
Imagine repeating this process multiple times a day, it sucks. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it? Another little tidbit of info:
If I have to push the button down I can do it without pressing the brake
Sorry for the double post but this problem does not occur in the spring/summer/fall. Only when it's really cold in the winter.
Maybe It needs to be lubed, Have you tryed WD40 or anything?, Maybe some white lithium grease will help.
Good Luck.
