I have a '96 2.4L. Is it common to see intake manifold gaskets needing to be replaced after so many years? What are the symptoms of a bad intake manifold gasket? How do I diagnose? I have a rough idle and nothing else.
Thanks.

remove your intake manifold. If the rubber gasket is torn or worn in a way that doesn't look normal, replace it.
I have never had to replace one. Does not mean it does not need to be. Is it common, not really. Spray come carb cleaner around the intake manifold while the car is running. If it boggs or the idle gets better you have a leak.
FU Tuning
If your intake manifold is leaking you will get rough idling. What John Higgins is a good trick as well.
Before you assume it's the gasket, what else did you check to make sure your rough idle is really coming from the intake.
