Well, erniscavi: When you installed the junk yard 5 spd transmission, Did you install a new clutch kit as well, Add Manual transmission fluid as well.If so, Then my guess would be one of youre shifting rods are bent, May need replacing.

i did not install a new clutch i did put fluid and it does not look like one of the shifting rods r bent they were telling me that it might be my slave cylinder or the clutch but i dont know

I found when I put in a new tranny that I was hitting a wire loom that was keeping it from shifting into first. Look around and see if you are binding on anything. Also check your shifter cable for any kinks.

i found what was the problem were the shifter hooks on in that one ball i do not know what it is called when i have to move it to the left to put it into first its not pushing it down far enough for first to go in so what i did i pushed it with my finger just a little and it went right into first but i do not know what that box looking thing is called where the shifter ball connects and i don't know if i have to replace it or just a little adjustment thanx

Erniscavi, can I ask why you went through the trouble to haul the old transmission out of the car, without putting a new clutch back in?
Thats a big job, are you looking for practice. I wouldn't even think of putting anything back together, without at least ensuring that the
internal parts were going to give the most, over time (abuse).

Clutch, Pressure Plate, Throw-out, Flywheel resurfacing.

I mean, no harm done, (whatevers left) your clutch won't last long regardless if its out of adjustment, you will be pulling it all apart soon.

If (and only if I was in a bind, 1000's of miles from anywhere) I needed a new clutch, and all I had was a used one, then I would take the whole
enchelata (flywheel and all) and install it, but only under great scrutiny. Making sure theres no heat-cracks or burning on the flywheel, the
clutchplate is no thinner then 3/16'ths, (I think new is 1/4 or 5/16ths thick, Im not sure), and no heat cracks or bluing on the pressureplate,
but thats a pretty daft scenario. I wouldn't even turn a bolt, 'before' making sure I had all the parts.

tsk, tsk...

oh well, live and learn. Sometimes a person tries to save a buck, and ends up spending two.
