Well the heater fan finally packed it in after weeks of squeeking and fast then slow fan speeds and all kinds of bad noises. I have a new one but have yet to put it in. I know it's under the dash passenger area as I seen in a scematic picture from GM. Ok i admit i have been completely lazy about not looking under the dash but I was wondering if anyone has some instructions/pictures or if anyone did a how-to write up on this.
I need to know a little head of time as it's freezing outside and would want to have the proper tools on hand to do the job properly/quickly. I admit my lazyness is on the part of it being about -20 celcius out the past couple days or so but this isnt worth freezing my butt of inside my car anymore hehe!
Any help would be appriciated as I'm going to replace it tomorrow. Please note my lazyness is due to living in an apartment with no indoor parking and no access to a garage to do the job. I wouldnt even care if the garage was heated or not.
I have the scamatics picture but that is all I have.
Regards,
Since you have the schematics, here's the written instructions:
Remove the right instrument panel (IP) insulator. (the plastic piece under the glovebox)
Disconnect the electrical connections at the blower motor.
Remove the blower motor retaining screws.
Remove the blower motor and fan assembly.
Installation is reverse
Tighten the blower motor screws to 5 N·m (44 lb in).
Heya NeoJuice, As Kardain explains in his post, Its pretty easy to do, Ive done 2 heater blower motors in J bodys already. I understand as well the weather in AB is hella cold, I live Vancouver bc, Not as cold. About 2 hours tops the job should be completed, Could only take 45mins. Basic socket set should work for you, And few screws drivers will done just fine.
Good Luck on the project.
Kardain & rich weeks,
Thanks for the instructions. I have a pretty poor schematic of the heater area off the gm parts direct site. Do you guys know of any better ones? I didnt know there was a "the plastic piece under the glovebox." Is it hard to remove? I do have a socket set and screw drivers. I hope that it doesnt take that long to do. I have done all the work on my car myself so far but I hate that it's so damm cold out and the damm snow on top of it all.
I'm going to try and find a garage tomorrow to do it in. If not it will be out in the cold for me. Brrrrrrrr...... and it has been snowing for the past couple hours. Already like 2" of snow built up on the car. I just cant wait to wake up in the a.m to the amount we will get over night.
Any help would be appriciated.
Its a plastic cover under the glovebox that is held on with 7mm screws (or 9/32" if you have it)... I think its like 5 screws

Hey Kardain
You post neat pictures/diagrams

Thanks for the great picture Kardain. I really appriciate it. My fan motor wont be in until 2pm this afternoon which really sucks. It has been snowing all night long and it's still snowing. Made for a chilly ride to work this morning having the window cracked to prevent having my windows fogging up. I hope this doesnt take to long to replace. I got a little air out of it this morning by putting on the re-circulate option which makes the fan spin faster. But then it squeeled and stopped. Damm thing.
One question though. There wont be any trouble removing/replacing the nuts on the blower motor will there be? I read that entire thread on the resistor replacement and people complained about the tough nut at the back. I'm assuming that I wont have to deal with that since i'm just replacing the motor.
Regards,
