what is this part??

what is this??? my haynes doesnt tell me anything about it.

the white box with the red circle keeps making a ticking sound....even when the car is off. the label says "CFC FREE" so im assuming its part of the a/c system, right? i couldnt get it to stop making a noise so i unplugged the wire by the red arrow. whatever it is it drained my battery dead yesterday....i only had enough juice for the glove box light.

care to tell us where it is located?

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

after reading Chilton's manual the best guess i can come up with is a relay for the SIR system(AIRBAG SYSTEM) which when deployed sends a gas to rapidly inflate the air bags, and i have heard the term CFC'S which i think is some type of chemical so maybe that's why it says CFC Free, best i can do for ya

Well... Dont hold the spelling against me- Im just taking a stab at it..

CFC stands for chloro flouro carbons... The stuff thats supposedly bad for the o-zone layer... You'll see labels on cans of hair spray saying CFC free...

reddevil: yeah im familiar with what cfcs are. i thought maybe it was related to the heating/cooling system because of that and the fact that this is right beside the blower motor for the hvac system.

biggs: it may be for the bags, but i dunno. i took the bags out of my 97z and didnt have to mess with anything under there. i disconnected the pass. bag right beside the bag. the drivers side was located under the dash, but on the other side.

I'm going to guess that its your 98

Its not the airbag system... the connector views don't match up and the only wiring that goes near there is for the passenger bag, no relay.

Does your car have power locks? It might be the power lock relay.. that's in the right general area...

Ok...

Got it narrowed down since its manual everything...

That should be the horn relay

I remembered that 98's have a "convenience center" in place of the BCM, the location is in the same spot you mentioned:

Referencing the connector end view, it matches what you posted (R, S, and T)

From what I can tell, the wires match as well...

SRS, everything is yellow.

And where the hell are you getting all these diagrams?

This is what I have but so do you, but if anyone else wants to take a stab at it.

All the wiring diagrams for your cav that my Haynes has to offer

Long ago, someone posted links to GM service manuals... so I downloaded a few

Computer failed, so I just have bits and pieces left.

alright cool. thanks kardain. now do you have any idea why it would be ticking constantly, draining my battery? and do you think i'll have any negative problems to running with it disconnected (other than the obvious no horn)?

Other than no horn, there's no issue. Those 3 wires only go to the horn, horn fuse, and horn button. There might be a frayed/cut wire somewhere near the horn itself that is tripping the relay or the relay itself went bad... that's all that I can think of offhand.

well, i got a new battery and the car finally started! woot! with that unhooked (and the blower motor out too) i have no HVAC, horn OR radio. i plan to put the blower motor back in today so at least i'll have heat...but dont plan on plugging the horn back in. i guess the radio was connected to that too? ehh?

Is it just the relay thats unplugged or the whole plug connector itself

Radio shouldn't go through that relay.... unless it goes to Pin R -- Fuse output, battery
