Dexcool compatible. Check the back for certifications. It does not need to be some particular color, just Dexcool certified or compliant.

Must be pretty low to have that light on.
I know my low coolant light came on a few months ago on the way home from work; got home, checked the manual; ran out side checked the oil, thanked god it was not my head gasket; then looked down and seen the big puddle of coolant under my car. I lost all the coolant from my reservoir; my upper rad pipe(black steel pipe that runs in front of the block) rusted out on the corner by the sensor; they are known to rust out on most j bodys with the 2200; hard to find as well, dealer has them on back order around where i live.
Check your upper rad pipe for rust, could be loosing some coolant there.

I would just add a cup of water and it should be good. If it keeps going low then you have a issue. I know this use to be a common issue and the dealers would just put a little water in.

is it ok to put a cup of water in when its this cold outside? I assume the existing coolant will keep it from freezing but still... I drove home from work today and the light didn't come on... I'll have to take a look under the hood tomorrow morning and see if its really low...

If it comes on, you have a leak someplace. Coolant like any other other fluid doesnt just vanish.

well... I read a few things on these forums with people saying the sensor got stuck and they just whacked the reservoir with the butt-end of a screwdriver and it was fixed... I haven't seen any puddles of coolant anywhere... and its so goddamn cold when I go out I don't wanna spend a bunch of time under my hood... haha... I'll look today though...

Well, I didn't buy my car new and it didn't come with a manual from the used car place... I googled online for "cavalier warning lights", etc... and didn't find anything useful...

Yes. You car does not come with straight coolant, it is mixed with water. Over many heat cycles (I'm talking many thousands of miles) you can lose a little coolant. It has water mixed in so heat will take it's toll on it.
