I had a new GM OEM belt put on my 2000 Z
My old belt would squeal when wet or on occasions when it wasnt under load it would just squeek a bit
So i finally got the new belt on
The next day i pushed my rear defroster after starting the car and turning on the headlights and such and a loud squeal started and wouldnt stop, i turned off the car and re started it
This time i didnt use the rear defrost and it didnt squeal
Anytime i overload the system it squeals like mad Headlights Blower Motor Rear Defrost i can make it squeal
Also when i start the car i get a miny squeal for about 2 secs
Any ideas?
I would suggest belt dressing but from what i hear it's not good for a belt but did you happen to get coolant or and oil or any other liquids on the belt when changing it? If so I had the same problem and I just had to bit the bullet and get a new one because i spilt like 5 drops of coolant on it. but if you want get some belt dressing and just a quick spray on both sides of the belt will work. (did that with winter beater and worked great with no problems 3 months now) so I guess belt dressing was good for me just dont use a ton because it can get messy.
Project Yellow Blur Is Under Way ! ! ! ! !

i wouldnt recommend belt dressing at all....you will create more probelms than you have
Weak tensioner eh
Is there a way to test that?
When i put the new belt on we had a hard time getting it on cause we couldnt get enough slack from the tensioner tool
When you put the new belt on, to release the tension, did you turn the tensioner tool Clockwise or Anti-clockwise?
Alont
I think he brought it toward the front of the car
Tensioners can ONLY be turned CLOCKWISE, turning them counterclockwise will damage them.
- 2004 Cavalier - 124k, owned since new
Really not sure if he only turned it Clockwise
Ill have to go get it looked at by a dealer
According to mechanic it is the Belt tensioner
Thanks Rob S--you said:-

This is what made me think the tensioner had been damaged by attempting to turn it the wrong way--the mechanic seems to have confirmed this
