hi all
I have a 99 z24 and when i turn on the AC the radiator fan wont come on. The AC seems to be working though. However, the fan works to prevent the car from over heating. What could this be?
Yes this happened recently and there is grinding noise coming from the alternator/ac compressor area, this noise is on and off. Yes we have some snow, not alot.
Where is the relay located? could it be a fuse?
its in the fuse box (eng) labelled COOLING FAN just check that relay out, there is also a cooling fan fuse I think, but last year i went through 2 cooling fans cuz they froze up and the motor seized... grinding is normal, thats what the compressor system does in some of the J's

I will check the fuses and relay however I have noticed that when i press the AC switch the fan does not come on, but when the car gets warm then the fan comes on fine.
I suspect that it could be the AC compressor clutch making the noise and becuase the clutch is not engaging the AC is not working and hence the fan is not coming on like it used to before.
what do you think of my theory?
In a 1993 2.2 Cav the Cooling fan will turn OFF with A/C selected if the refrigerant pressure drops to 41 p.s.i. or less

Ok guys, I had a proper look last night after work.
The AC works when I lift up the hood (fan aswell) and doesnt work when the hood is closed. The only thing connected to the hood is an alarm sensor, hood pin detector. I guess there is a short circuit somewhere with that sensor?
Hi mat, just a quick question, when the car is turned off and i press the brake pedal, should the brake lights light up? Is this normal.
I have found out that the wiring for alarm hood pin detector is wired to the brake pedal wires.
I just checked the car tonight and the ac has nothing to do with the hood being up or down as i thought before. that was just a coincidence.
A few months back the GM dealer took my dash apart to fix my cigarette lighter, i suspect that they might have left something loose in the back of the a/c switch or something. Cuz sometime when i press the ac switch it works and others it doesnt.
