180* Thermostat

Why does all the parts stores only carry the 180* thermostat for the 2.2 Cavaliers? Is GM worried of overheating issues with them? I just thought it was strange that there only carrying the 180* instead of the 195.

its cheaper to stock one than two. and 180 is better then 195 in my book anyday.

The Cavalier is equipped by the factory with a 180 degree stat, not a 195. This is a common misconception because the temp gauges on j-bodies usually indicate around 195.

Allow 2.2L motors seem to like 180 thermostats, Then 195.

So the statement that "all engines use a 91 deg C/ 195 deg F thermostat" in my 1993 Official shop manual is incorrect?

Is there any written evidence that the thermostat temperature has been changed?

Not to be picky but this information has to be correct

Okay, my mistake. According to Haynes, all 2.2 OHV engines are 195. All 2.2 (Ecotec), 2.3, and 2.4 OHC engines use 180. I knew my 04 Eco was 180 so I assumed all were. Bad assumption.

Incorrect. I'm not sure about the 2200, but my 1997 Workshop manual shows both engines (L4 2.2 & LD9 2.4) use a 180 degree thermostat.

Tried to find out why there is different info between the 1993 Workshop manual and the 1997 edition.

All I could come up with was checking Rock Auto.com 1993-1995 2.2's have an OE temp of 195 deg F and 1996--- on is 180 deg F.

There is an Alternative temp of 180 deg F offered for the 1993-1995's.

Is this because of the change from OBD 1 to OBD 2?
