Rear window defroster/wiring diagram

Hi,

My rear window defroster has stopped working. I have used a DMM at the switch and it seems to be functioning fine there, ~12V on the purple wire when the switch is in the on position. I have also checked the plugs at the grid it has a resistance of about 1.2 ohms and is grounded on one side. Now for the kicker if I unplug the non-grounded side and check the voltage I get 12V however when plugged back into the grid I get nothing. The fuse is fine so I am assume there is a relay or something between the switch and the connector on the grid which would be stopping enough current from reaching the plug, however I am not sure. If anyone has any suggestions and/or wiring diagrams that would be great!

Car: 2000 Z24, 5spd

PS: I've been looking for wiring diagrams a few times so if anyone has some that are not even relevant to me it might still be useful in the future.

Thanks alot

Here's 3 threads with a similar problem, hope one of them has an answer for you (or at least a starting point):

thanks for the reply.
I did search before posting and found those and a few other posts however it does not appear the connector seems to be fine in my situation.
I'll try and trace it tomorrow. But if all else fails I guess I will just run a line, will it be safe to splice the purple wire from the switch and run it back to the defroster?

The switch is tied to the timer circuit, so no... the splice won't work.

As for the wiring diagram, I had this saved on my HD from ages ago:

Hey guys...i had this problem with the defogger not working...looked through a Haynes manual - useless...couldnt find a Chilton...wasnt sure what wire or what side the power would be. Did a search and the issue is now resolved. Thanks for the inputs on this forum and a few others. Simple fix. Much appreciated
