ABS Code Scanner? (02eco)
Wednesday, December 20, 2006 12:12 PM
My ABS light is on and my ABS is not functioning. How can I troubleshoot this problem on my own and does anybody know how/where I can read the ABS code? I've heard rumors of some OBDII code scanners being able to also read ABS codes. If this is true, do I plug the OBDII scanner into the normal connection or do I plug it elsewhere into the "abs computer" or something? I don't NEED ABS, but I'd rather not have random broken things in my car so I'd like to get it taken care of.

and on a sidenote I searched for "ABS Codes" and found no results so I apologize if there are other threads out there.

no OBDII doesnt read the ABS trouble light. The GM Tech scanner reads all types of codes. Usually when ABS light kicks on, Its either a wheel sensor that gone. Or wiring sensor is damaged or loose connection. Something worng with the brakes.

Good Luck.

where do I find each sensor at? I honostly dont know what im looking for. can somebody post a picture of the sensor? Also, I believe that the sensors were all iced over (wet day froze at night). Now that everything is thawed is it possible that getting rid of that ABS trouble light would make the ABS turn back on? (as you may be able to tell, i have no clue how my ABS system does what it does).

Well Eric if you take off youre front tries on youre car, You will see a wiring harness thats located near youre, Youre brake rotor area, Sometimes road grime or things get stuck near that area in which cause things not to work. You could also try disconnecting youre neg post part on youre battery all 1 min or so for it to reset the ABS system. Then reconect to battery post.

Each wheel has a wheel speed sensor. Its the only wires going down to the hub. Check there. Obviously it is going into the back of the hub... Check the wires for damage and insure that they are plugged in. Start there.

you are incorrect. Your ODB reader from discount will not read it, but there is tranny codes, and ABS codes. A Tech II or similar scanners can go to the tranny section and brake section of the computer to get those codes. You can also read things like readings from the ABS sesnors, and get speed readings from those sensors as well.
