steering clunk

ive done a lot of searching, and there are a ot of different answers

when making an S-Turn upon making the last half of the s turn there is a clunk heard and a clunk felt in the brake pedal.

seems to happen more often when turning right, but im not sure about that.

there is a TSB for the intermediate steering shaft, but would that cause a feeling in the brake pedal?

what about tie rod ends?
wheel bearings?
cv joints?

If youre able to get youre car up jack stands. pop the tires off inspect youre tie rods and ball joints. It would be easier if you had a buddy their to give you hand. Also has youre upper & lower motor mounts been changed?. I would look at that area if the mounts are old. Also with a buddy turning the steering wheel from side to side, If their is any play in the steering I would look at rack pinion bushings for crack or breakage splits in the rubber bushings.

Good Luck

also i just noticed today

when doing a parking lot speed s turn its just one clunk heard and felt

faster speed cornering cause the same sound clank and felt clank but there is also soem other minor clinking and creaking through the turn. doesnt happen ALL the time tho.

would that maybe be a strut mount or something?

Defintly sounds like a strut mount to me. Usually brake chatter doesnt make a "Clunk" sound like a bad strut mount will.

it may very well be multiple problems since the car has 100+k on it

if worn engien mounts can make a clunking sound i think it could be a problem as well. because the sound, sounds like its in the front right which is where the top motor mount is. and the car movin in a s turn fashion would tilt the motor a little bit and then the second half of the s turn would tilt it back causing a clank.

is that possible?

No, its probably a strut mount. There is also one of those in the front right of the car.

Well Nathaniel O'Flaherty : You just got to get the car up on jack stands, Use a pry bar or screw driver, pry around the mounts. You should be able to tell if its youre strut mount. With the up on jack stands, Should be able to inspect for movement.

Good Luck.
