HIgh idle sometimes, quits sometimes

The last week or so my car has been acting really strange.

Last week, i would be coming to a stoplight so i take it out of gear and slow down. Well when my RPMs fell, they fell really slow and it idled at around 1500-1600 RPM instead of the usual 800-900. So i look at the tach and am like wtf, and i also feel the vibrations in the clutch pedal so it seemed like i was pushing the gas but i wasnt. when i got home it smelled like burnt clutch. This only happened a few times, over the course of the week. Sometimes it did it, sometimes it didnt.

That hasnt happened in a few days, but now a new problem arose. I was coming home from my final today, i stop at a stop light with my car out of gear, and my car quits. So i start it up and drive to the next light and it quits again. I watched the RPMS go past idle to 500 it hovers for sec then quits. The next 2 stops its fine but when i stop in front of my garage it quits again. its like when i take it out of gear and the RPMs drop to idle range it doesnt stop where it should it just keeps going to 400-500, hovers for a sec or so then quits..

I talked to a buddy of mine he thinks it might be the Throttle Positioning Sensor. My cousin thinks it could be the mass airflow sensor or maybe a vacuum leak. He needs to look at it to find out, obviously.

Im just posting to see if anyone else has had this problem with the 2.2L ecotec w/manual transmission, so when i bring it in to his shop i can tell him where to start to save some time and money.

Thanks.

I have an 03 2.2 manual ecotec that does the same thing. Some will tell you there was a recall/tsb that says your ecu needs to bee reflashed. I had it done but it only made the problem happen less often. I've been thinking about contacting Chevy about it. Let me know what you do and if it works.

I will respond on this cause I have recently had the same problem happen. Here is what I have come up with.

I have a new ECU & BCM,
I replaced the IAC sensor, No change
TPS sensor seems fine, swapped it out with a spare and I still have the same problem.

I have narrowed this down to a vacuum leak. It seems that my Intake manifold is comming apart (it looks like it is two pieces right where the bolts are at work today I took it off at lunch and put epoxy around it all. Somewhat fixed my problem cause its not doing it that bad now. Im starting to wonder about the quality of these composite manifolds cause this is the second one I have owned that has split apart near the top of the ports.

Mine would throw a P0507 code (RPM Idle too high) and when I would let off the gas the RPM's would jump from 700 to 1500 and do it repeatedly till under 25mph not to mention while sitting still it would idle around 1200 rpm instead of the normal 700-800 rpm. Funny thing is it just started to do this during this winter. It was fine when I first swapped the ecotec into the 97 cav a few years ago.
