Road Walking
Sunday, December 17, 2006 11:21 PM
My 90 Z24 seems to just glide all over the road, I've checked and changed most of the front suspension, ball joint, tightened sway bars, I do know that I have a broken motor mount but is there any other reason that would cause this thing to road walk all over the place? Its just a chore to keep it in the same lane when driving it anymore.

Change lanes. Sometimes the channels created on the road by traffic are just narrow enough to give you the "walking" feeling.

Doesn't matter which lane or which road

When was the last time the alignment was done?

I was told it could be the tires. The rims are the stock Z's like this http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/2/web/2474000-2474999/2474971_3_full.jpg

but the tires look huge to the point that even with correct tire pressure it looks "bulgey" at the bottom.

? did u replace the struts. That can be a very critical issue with the front end drifting around being u have replaced the above parts which are just as important. As long as ur tires have at least 4/32 tread or even less sometimes and no wear spots or feathering on the sides inside or out of the tire that should be ok..Make sure the tires are balanced and those rear shocks affect things too, assuming urs has those and not struts, either way it can affect handling.I would go with a alignment as already stated the car should go straight when u apply the brakes on a level road and should not pull or drift to one side when u do this, simply check if it is not in alignment.Hope this helps and go from there.

Walking can be caused by excessive toe out conditions which occur when ridehighth is changed.
However, Dog walking is caused by your rear wheels being out of alignment with a thrust angle that is in specs. This is when your car drives sideways more than it does straight.

Also if you have replaced all of your suspension parts I would check for bent parts such as a lower control arm or spindle.

I also see that you said you have a bulge in your tire that you think maybe causing it. The easiest way to check something like that is to just throw it on a balancer, let is spin and place your hand on the tread and see if you feel a bump as the tire moves. A bad tire may cause your car to sway back and fourth but it shouldnt cause it to pull constantly to one side.
