10-30 penzoil??
Sunday, December 17, 2006 6:09 PM
hey guys, i went into town to do some shopping today, and picked up oil and filter. when i got home i relized i had not 10-30 instead of 5-30 that I always had bought. it's the brand penzoil too. it's a 2 hour drive to get back into town, to exhange it, i was wonderin if this would hurt to put this into my car for a oil change. thanks

The car has 300,000 km's on it but doesn't burn a drop of oil

I would stick with 5W-30, especially with cold weather closing in.

If you don't expect any super-cold temps, then you may be OK. But, to err on the safe side, save the 10w for summer running. My 2.2 doesn't burn oil, either, but cold snaps in the northeast are a b!tch, and are unpredictable. I use 10w in the summer, but switch to 5w for Oct - Mar times.

Na jeff, 10w / 30w should be ok, All it will do is take a bit longer for youre oil to heat up. In winter temps.

hey guys, thanks, the coldest we get is probally around -8 and we don't see that very often. I still have about a liter of 5w-30 left should i mix that with the 10w-30?? So far of a drive to get it exhanged is the worst, and my time for a oil change is up..

10w30 is fine in cold weather. Don't worry about it. We see -35 -40 over here and 10w30 work just the same as 5w30. People need to get a clue.

5w30 will make warming up easier, but after the oil is warm the difference between 5-30 and 10-30 is pretty much non existent. The hot weight is whats important x-45 x-50 etc would cause problems and you want to avoid it.
